Apulia
The Region
Located in the south-east of the Italian peninsula, Puglia stretches over 19,357 km2 in a succession of broad plains and low hills. The only areas of mountains, the promontory of Gargano and the Monti Dauni, not exceed 1,150 meters and are located in the northern region, which is the least mountainous of Italy.
Puglia is a region very dry. Its few rivers have a torrential character and are located on a plateau at the foot of the promontory of Gargano, called Tavoliere of Puglia, which is one of the largest and most productive plains.
Elsewhere, the rain water penetrates the limestone, forming, thus, numerous and abundant underground rivers that emerge near the coast.
The climate is hot and dry in summer, and not particularly rainy in winter, in fact, the few winter rains rarely exceed 500 mm per year.
