Umbria
The region
Umbria borders with Tuscany to the west, the Marche to the east and Lazio to the south. This region is mostly hilly or mountainous, lying almost entirely within the central Apennines, with the region's highest point, on Mount Vettore near the Marche border.
The main rivers are: the Tiber, which marks the border with Lazio, and its three tributaries, the Chiascio, The Topino, and the Nera, which flows through the Valnerina, considered one of Umbria's most beautiful scenic areas.
Differences in altitude bring to a wide variability of climate: in the plains and hills, in fact, the climate is mediterranean with dry summers and rainy winters, while in mountain areas is subcontinentalwith frequent rainfalls especially during spring and autumn.
