Basilicata
The region
Basilicata is a region in southern Italy, on the border with Campania to the west, Puglia to the north - east, and Calabria in the south, with a short coastline on the Tyrrhenian Sea between south-western Campania and Calabria, in facing also on the Gulf of Taranto on the Ionian Sea between Calabria and Puglia. The region covers 9992 kilometers and in 2008 had a population of less than 600,000 inhabitants. The region is divided into two provinces: Potenza, which is the capital and Matera.
