Tenuta Dioscuri - winery in Calabria - producers of Greco di Bianco DOC - wineries of Calabria - Southern Italy dessert wines

The Tenuta Dioscuri is located south of Calabria in a locality called, Bianco in the province of Reggio Calabria, only 100 meters away from the sea.

In 1978, my father planted a vineyard, which still exists, and in 2007 I took over the whole winery, calling it "Tenuta Dioscuri", inspired by a legend that speaks of the war between 10,000 from Locri and 130,000 from Crotone, when copious libations of an ancient wine, infused to Locrian a courage that sustained them in the remarkable battle. The intervention of the Dioscuri on white horses, on the right and left wing of Locrian army, contributed to the victory. That wine was the famous "Greco di Bianco".

The vineyard covers nearly 14,000 square meters, all flat. In 2007 I built the cellar with adequate equipment to produce Passito (wine from withered grapes). Greco di Bianco is an ancient wine, which can be considered one of the most valuable and rare Italian dessert wine; in 1980, it was given the DOC certification. In 2006 I was the only one who has only made some greenhouses for the ing of the grapes to get higher quality and healthy grapes.

The Greco of Bianco is only produced and vinified in the whole territory of Bianco and a part of the territory of Casignana and can not be sold before 13 months after harvest.
