Wineries of Chianti Classico
Among the many Tuscan wines, Chianti Classico DOCG and Chianti DOCG wines are perhaps the best known and sought both nationally and internationally.
Produced in a wide area of central Tuscany, between Florence, Siena, Arezzo and Pisa, Chianti DOCG is produced in several sub-areas that refer to the main town of the area, so we can find the Chianti Rufina, Chianti Montespertoli, Chianti Colli Fiorentini , Chianti Colli Senesi, Chianti Colline Pisane, the Chianti Montalbano and Chianti Colli Aretini.
Contrary to what one might think the Chianti Classico DOCG is a different wine from the Chianti DOCG. It is not only a matter of area of origin, but also change the production disciplnary: certainly, both the Chianti and the Chianti Classico are made mostly with Sangiovese grapes, but minimum proportions are different. In addition in the blend of Chianti wine can be added white grapes (Trebbiano toscano and Malvasia), completely absent in the Chianti Classico. Different is also the minimum time of aging: the disciplinary provides that the Chianti wine, in fact, should be aged in wooden barrels for at least three months, while the Chianti Classico is aged twice as long. Similar, however, are the periods of aging provided for in the disciplinary of the Chianti and Chianti Classico for the production of Reserve wine: about 2 years.
